Rideau-Vanier and Alta Vista are the hot spots for vehicle thefts in Ottawa so far this year. The Ottawa Police Service’s crime map shows police have received 885 reports of vehicle thefts in Ottawa since Jan. 1. Police reported 1,090 motor vehicle thefts between Jan. 1 and Sept. 21 in 2025. Eighty-eight vehicles have been reported stolen in Rideau-Vanier, including 30 in the ByWard Market area and 22 in Sandy Hill. Alta Vista is second on the list for vehicle thefts, with 66 vehicles stolen in the ward between Jan. 1 and Oct. 21. Twenty-two of the vehicles reported stolen in the Alta Vista ward were in the East Industrial area and 14 reported stolen in the Elmvale-Canterbury neighbourhood. Police have received 56 reports of vehicle thefts in Bay ward, while 53 vehicles have been reported stolen in Gloucester-Southgate.
