After engaging with Regina’s city administration, a city councillor has rescinded his request for a review of making council positions full-time jobs. Ward 3 Councillor David Froh was expected to introduce the motion at Wednesday’s city council meeting — requesting a report be crafted by admin to see what making council positions full-time jobs would entail. However, the proposed idea was dropped at the beginning of the meeting. “Having spent some time connecting with administration, I’m going to withdraw the motion at this time,” Froh told councillors. “It was my view based on the last review, that this could be done internally. However, having found that this review would cost considerable dollars and take considerable capacity, I just think at this time it’s probably not appropriate.” Froh added he will try to explore a less costly option when reviewing the idea ahead of the next municipal election in 2028. “I’ll connect with my colleagues and to see if there’s an alternative way that we might be able to do that together,” Froh said. “I appreciate the clerk’s information this morning.” If the review were to be done, the concept could come with higher pay and more administrative supports but with fewer people on council due to a possible reduction in wards.
