The Northern Tornadoes Project (NTP) has confirmed two tornadoes touched down on Aug. 30 across both Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Researchers confirmed tornadoes touched down at Maryfield, Sask. and Elkhorn, Man. on Sunday. Damage was reported in both instances. Two other tornado reports, at Kelso, Sask. and Keoma, Alta., are also being investigated. A survey team was scheduled to begin investigating the tornadoes across Saskatchewan and Manitoba on Monday. Maryfield, Sask. is located around 240 kilometres southeast of Regina. Heavy rainfall Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) confirmed a series of rainfall totals for Sunday, Aug. 30 on Monday. According to the weather service, Estevan reported the greatest rainfall total at 46.8 millimetres (mm) in addition to golf ball-sized hail Sunday afternoon. Other highlighted communities included Regina (41 mm), Indian Head (32.3 mm) and Broadview (30.4 mm). Much of southern and central Saskatchewan was put under rainfall warnings ahead of Sunday’s storms. ECCC forecasted rainfall totals of up to 50-60 mm, with thunderstorms in some areas capable of producing between 80 and 100 mm.
