Arson charge laid as investigation continues into multiple house fires in northern Sask. village

Sandy Bay RCMP have charged a teen boy with arson following a house fire in the community earlier this month.

Officers were called to a report of a fire at a house in Sandy Bay around 1 a.m. on April 5, Saskatchewan RCMP said in a news release.

Officers responded immediately and confirmed the house was unoccupied at the time. No injuries were reported, but the home was heavily damaged.

RCMP said investigators with the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency assisted with the investigation, which led to the arrest of a male youth on April 13.

He has been charged with one count of arson causing damage to property. The youth is scheduled to appear in Sandy Bay Provincial Court on May 7.

His name and age are not being released in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

RCMP said they continue to investigate the fire along, with several other suspicious structure fires in the community.

According to police, four houses and one outbuilding have been damaged by fires in the community since October 2025, and investigators are working to determine whether the incidents are connected.

Sandy Bay RCMP ask anyone who witnessed or knows how these fires started to report it to police.

Sandy Bay is located about 600 kilometres northeast of Prince Albert.
