Wildfire smoke leading to air quality alerts across Saskatchewan

Wildfire smoke has reduced air quality in the province’s east central and northern regions.

Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued an alert for areas including Melfort, Tisdale and Nipawin, as well as northern communities like La Ronge, La Loche and Stone Rapids.

Wildfire smoke can cause respiratory issues as well as irritation, headaches, and coughs. The smoke is also impacting visibility.

People are reminded to protect themselves when heading outdoors and make note that conditions can change quickly over short distances and from hour to hour.

As of Tuesday morning, 55 active wildfires were burning in Saskatchewan.
