Police have charged a Bradford man after an investigation into an uninsured vehicle was linked to a hit-and-run collision in Bradford West Gwillimbury. South Simcoe Police issued a news release on Tuesday, saying officers stopped a vehicle on Holland Street West on Jan. 25 at around 4 p.m. after noticing a ten-day temporary permit expired a year ago. Police said the driver provided documentation that the vehicle was insured but he was charged with expired validation. They added that was the second validation-related offence involving the same vehicle within a two-month period. Upon further investigation, police said they learned the insurance documentation provided was not valid and the vehicle had been uninsured for three months. On Jan. 26, police said they received a report of a hit-and-run after a vehicle was struck at a local business. Police said that information provided to them revealed that the suspect vehicle involved in the collision was the same one they stopped a day earlier. Police then observed the suspect vehicle travelling westbound on Holland Street in Bradford West Gwillimbury. Police said they conducted a traffic stop and a 23-year-old male from Bradford was charged with three counts of operating a motor vehicle without insurance, two counts of producing false evidence of insurance and making a false statement. The accused is scheduled to appear in court March 9.
