Mounties in Kelowna, B.C., say an elderly man riding a mobility scooter was struck and killed by a bus on Sunday afternoon. Kelowna RCMP say officers were called to an area of Benvoulin Road, near Rampone Road, at around 1:30 p.m. with reports of the scooter colliding with a charter bus. The 97-year-old man was transported to hospital but later succumbed to his injuries, police say. The section of Benvoulin Road where the man was struck has no roadside barriers or raised sidewalks separating the roadway and its shoulder. Anyone affected by the incident is being encouraged to contact the Kelowna RCMP for support. “Our victim services team is available to provide compassionate and professional assistance during this difficult time,” Cpl. Steven Lang said, in a statement. The collision is under investigation, but police say criminality and impairment aren’t currently believed to be factors. Anyone with any dashcam video of the collision has been asked to contact investigators at 250-762-3300 and quote file number 2026-47361.
