Drunk driver caught after ‘stumbling into a pole’ outside store: B.C. RCMP

A drunk driver was removed from the road after a vigilant resident reported him to police, according to the B.C. RCMP.

Around 2 p.m. Thursday, a witness saw a man exit a pickup truck behind a grocery store on Opal Drive in Logan Lake, police said.

“The man appeared unsteady on his feet and was seen stumbling into a pole outside the store,” Mounties wrote in a statement Friday. “The same individual was later observed at a nearby bank, where a strong odour of liquor was noted.”

The member of the public gave police a description of the man and his vehicle, and officers found a truck matching that description being operated in the area, according to the release.

Police say a breath test revealed the driver was impaired and he was handed a 90-day driving prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

“The quick thinking and detailed observations from a member of the public were instrumental in allowing officers to intervene before someone was seriously hurt,” Cpl. Chris Odgaard said, in the release.

Mounties recommend calling 911 immediately if you suspect a driver is impaired.
