Cyclists from near and far gathered at Montreal’s Jarry Park on Sunday for the 41st edition of Tour de l’Île. With a choice of routes from 30 to 90 kilometres, the city’s streets were transformed into one giant car-free bike path. Organizers say more than 21,000 people took part, including Mayor Soraya Martinez Ferrada. This year’s ride also marks the 50th anniversary of the Montreal Olympics, with themed stops woven in along the way. The event is put on by Velo Quebec, and this year’s spokesperson is Canadian Olympic gymnast Felix Dolci. “Whether it’s family or people that are already performing in the sport, I think it’s a great way to just spend a good day together and push this culture of, of cycling here in Montreal and in Quebec,” Dolci tells CTV News. The Tour de l’Île comes after a disappointing start to the weekend. Friday’s overnight ride - Tour la Nuit - was cancelled at the last minute due to bad weather and safety concerns. However, Sunday’s gloomy weather was no match for those on the move.
