Open Streets Windsor to close out the summer

Open Streets Windsor will close off summer this year.

The city of Windsor will say goodbye to summer with the return of Open Streets on Sept. 21.

The announcement was made Wednesday afternoon at City Hall Square.

Last year was a success, with enthusiastic support from locals and out-of-towners. This year’s edition includes new sites, vendors, things to explore as you walk or ride through the city.

For Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens, the event is an open call to everyone to enjoy what the city has to offer.

“You’re going to have a number of fun things to do, family friendly things to do from start to finish along the route,” said Dilkens.

“Last year, we did the east end edition. This year, we’re going back to the normal road, which is Sandwich Town to Ford City. Many stops in between with all the bars participating. We couldn’t do this without the help of St. Clair College, the Port Authority and so many other important sponsors.”

Open Streets events are held across North America yearly. It involves a temporary closure of roadways to cars. The aim is to promote community cohesion, business, and exploration in a healthy, physically engaged fashion.
