The province has issued a flood watch for parts of Manitoba due to ongoing spring runoff.

The Hydrologic Forecast Centre has issued a watch for the Assiniboine River from Shellmouth to Brandon, as forecasters monitor the level of spring runoff in western, central and northern Manitoba basins.

The centre said spring runoff is either underway or nearly completed in most basins in southern Manitoba.

“Most Manitoba basins could receive up to 15 millimetres of precipitation in the next seven days,” the province said in a news release. “This precipitation is not expected to change the ongoing runoff conditions.”

Manitobans are being reminded to stay away from creeks, streams and rivers due to the safety risks.

The alert is expected to stay in place for one week.
