Rainbow Stage’s ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ wrapped up earlier than anticipated in the city based on the organization’s decision to cancel their matinee performance citing extreme heat concerns in Winnipeg. “The health and safety of our patrons, cast, musicians, crew, volunteers, and staff remain our highest priority. Based on the forecasted conditions, we do not believe it is safe or responsible to proceed with an outdoor performance,” the organization said in a statement Saturday. The matinee show was originally scheduled for Sunday July 12 at 2:00 p.m. According to the release, patrons who purchased tickets for Sunday’s performance will have the opportunity to transfer their tickets to a performance of ‘Legally Blonde The Musical’ playing August 13 to 30. Alternatively, patrons can donate the value of their tickets for a charitable tax receipt or receive a full refund. An orange heat warning remains in effect for the City of Winnipeg with Environment and Climate Change Canada forecasting a high of 37 degrees for the city on Sunday. Humidex values could make that temperature feel like 47 degrees outside.
