Winnipeg looking at acquiring land for new regional park

A motion before a city committee could help create a new regional park in Winnipeg, the first since the 1960s.

Winnipeg could soon be getting a new regional park.

The property and development committee will look over a motion recommending the public service look at what it would cost to acquire 40 hectares of land in Precinct D.

Precinct D is in the north part of the city, sitting between Pipeline Road and McPhillips Street east to west and Storie Road and the Perimeter Highway north to south.

The motion notes regional parks have not been built in Winnipeg since the 1960s, even though new parks are supposed to be built for every 100,000 people.

The Public Service would be required to come back with an estimated price tag in 180 days.

The committee will look at the motion on June 11.
