Summer has officially started for young people in the Maritimes, which means there’s lots to do. From riding bikes to going for a swim, their schedules are quickly filling up. But most are leaving room for summer camp. “(My daughter) and her sister are going to the Neptune camp. I’m on maternity leave, so we like to spend time at the local lakes and the pool. And we’ve had great weather so far, so we’ve been really lucky that way,” says Lindsay Cameron. Whether its inside or on the field, there are plenty of camps to choose from in the region. About 350 kids have enrolled in Code Ninjas camp this summer. “We do some Minecraft modding, some Roblox, some Scratch as well. Scratch was developed by MIT, so doing the comparison for that teaches kids more about the love for seeing how games are truly made,” says Daniel Surovkin, the assistant centre director. He adds it’s a popular choice for parents who want their kids to have fun and learn a thing or two. “It’s a really nice way to take their love for technology and show them a fun learning experience and how to create games. If they’re just playing the games all the time, why not learn how to make it.”
