Police seize loaded modified firearm in Kentville, N.S., arrest

The Kentville Police Service say they seized a loaded modified firearm while arresting a man in downtown Kentville, N.S., Thursday.

Kentville police and the Southwest Nova RCMP Street Crime Enforcement Unit arrested the man near Main Street in relation to an ongoing investigation, according to a news release from the Kentville Police Service.

During the arrest, police say they seized a loaded modified firearm, a quantity of suspected methamphetamine, cash and electronic communications devices.

David Charles Bent, 36, of South Berwick was charged with:

• possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking
• seven firearms-related offences including possession of a loaded prohibited firearm
• four counts of failing to comply with firearms prohibition orders
• two counts of failing to comply with a release order

Bent was held in custody by police before appearing in Kentville provincial court on July 3.

The Kentville Police Service say officers continue to investigate drug trafficking in the community and ask anyone with information to contact the Kentville Police Service or Crimestoppers.
