The RCMP has released the name of a man found dead in New Campbellton, N.S., last year, and says investigators are treating his death as a homicide. Police responded to a report of an abandoned vehicle on New Campbellton Road on Aug. 30, 2025. When officers arrived, they found the body of a man at the scene. No one else was inside the vehicle. At the time, police said they were treating his death as suspicious. The RCMP released an update on the case Tuesday, confirming the man was the victim of a homicide and have identified him as Emerson Elliot Dixon, 43, of Whitney Pier, N.S. Police say Dixon was the subject of a well-being investigation in the Cape Breton Regional Municipality that began on Aug. 28, 2025. Investigators say the car found at scene was a 2011 blue Chevrolet Malibu, owned by a person known to Dixon. Police are asking anyone with information about Dixon’s whereabouts and activities between Aug. 23 and 27, 2025, or with any other information regarding the incident to contact the Northeast Nova Major Crime Unit at 902-896-5060 or Nova Scotia Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
