What’s happening across the Maritimes for Canada Day 2026

With Canada Day here, many municipalities across the region are holding celebrations.

To help you plan your Canada Day, CTV News Atlantic has compiled a list of service and business hour changes in effect.

Fireworks

Fireworks displays will be taking place in multiple municipalities throughout the Maritimes.

Nova Scotia:

• Canada Day fireworks be set off in Halifax at 10 p.m., weather permitting, which can be viewed from along the Halifax and Dartmouth waterfronts.
• Fireworks will be set off at Open Hearth Park in Sydney at 10:15 p.m.

New Brunswick:

• A firework display will take place at Riverfront Park in Moncton at 10 p.m., with other activities planned throughout the day.
• Fireworks will take place at the Westmorland Street Bridge in Fredericton at 10:40 p.m. The bridge will be closed from 7:30 p.m. to midnight.
• Fireworks will take place at Saint John’s Long Wharf at 10 p.m. Other events will take place at the Ihtoli-maqahamok boardwalk amphitheatre, the Area 506 container village and Market Square.

Prince Edward Island:

• Fireworks will take place at Victoria Park in Charlottetown at 10 p.m.
• A firework display will take place following other full-day events in North Rustico’s Seawalk Park at 10 p.m.

Closures

Closures are also taking place across the region, but some businesses and municipal services are keeping their doors open.

Nova Scotia:

• Grocery stores such as Sobeys, Atlantic Superstore, Costco, and Walmart are closed.
• Gateway Meat Market is open until 6 p.m.
• NSLC is closed, but some independent alcohol retailers will be open
• Malls such as the Halifax Shopping Centre, Mic Mac Mall, Sunnyside Mall, Bedford Place Mall, and Park Land Mall are closed.
• Municipal outdoor pools, supervised beaches, and splash pads will be open
• The Emera Oval is open with equipment lending, weather permitting.
• Municipal recreation facilities such as the Canada Games Centre and Zatzman Sportsplex are closed Wednesday.
• Halifax Transit buses are operating on a holiday schedule
• The Alderney Ferry is free on Canada Day, and customers are given the ability to donate to the Parker Street Food Bank. The Woodside Ferry will not be operating.
• Paid on-street parking is free in Halifax.
• All Halifax Public Library branches are closed

New Brunswick

• Grocery stores such as Sobeys, Atlantic Superstore, and Walmart are closed. Costco in Fredericton, Moncton, and Saint John will be closed.
• Saint John Transit and Fredericton Transit are not running.
• Codiac Transpo in Moncton will run on a modified schedule.
• All public libraries and administrative offices are closed
• Service New Brunswick and Service Canada is closed.
• Saint John City Market is open until 3 p.m.
• The Magnetic Hill Zoo is open until 5 p.m.
• The Beaverbrook Art Gallery in Fredericton is open until 5 p.m.
• The Fredericton Region Museum is open.

Prince Edward Island

• All government offices are closed.
• Access P.E.I. locations and public libraries are closed.
• Charlottetown City Hall is closed.
• Summerside City Hall is closed.
• T3 transit is operating on it’s Saturday schedule
• P.E.I. Liquor and Cannabis stores are open until 6 p.m.
• Sobeys locations will be open until 6 p.m.
• Co-Op and Foodland locations will be open until 6 p.m.
• Walmart in Charlottetown is open.
• Atlantic Superstore on University Avenue is open.
• Superstores in West Royalty and Montague are open until 6 p.m. The Superstore in Summerside is open until 10 p.m.
• Royalty Crossing mall in Charlottetown is open until 5 p.m.
• Confederation Court Mall in Charlottetown is closed.
• County Fair Mall in Summerside is closed.
• Lawtons Drug in Sherwood is open until 6 p.m., and the Summerside location is open until 5 p.m.
• Shoppers Drug Marts are open with varying hours depending on location.
