Atlantic Canada’s largest used book sale is back in Saint John for its 21st year, bringing one of its biggest hauls yet to local readers. The annual Big Book Sale, supporting Big Brothers Big Sisters of Saint John, kicked off Thursday at TD Station. The sale runs until Sunday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. An estimated 70,000 to 80,000 donated books line the arena’s perimeter, organized by genres ranging from Canadiana to cookbooks. “We packed 74 pallets of boxes of books to be moved here,” says Charlene Perry, a mentoring coordinator with Big Bothers Big Sisters of Saint John. “We’re always looking for extra hands in the summer to make this happen.” The used book sale is one of the non-profit organization’s flagship annual fundraisers. Last year’s sale raised roughly $54,000. “This is our second year at this location, and we more than doubled the amount that we raised the previous 19 years, during our first year here,” says Perry. “We are on our way to doing that again for our second year here.” For more New Brunswick news, visit our dedicated provincial page.
