A woman has been ticketed for allegedly failing to stop for a crossing guard in a crosswalk in Moncton, N.B., in April. The RCMP launched an investigation after video circulating online appeared to show a vehicle driving through the crosswalk while the crossing guard was holding a stop sign and assisting pedestrians. Codiac Regional RCMP said Thursday it has concluded the investigation and identified the driver. The 36-year-old Moncton woman has been issued a ticket for failing to stop for a school crossing guard displaying a stop sign, under the Motor Vehicle Act. “The safety of pedestrians, particularly children travelling to and from school, will always be a priority for the RCMP,” said Cpl. Hans Ouellet with the New Brunswick RCMP. “School crossing guards play an important role in keeping our communities safe, and drivers must remain alert and obey their instructions at all times.” Police say many people came forward with information and their “cooperation was instrumental” in advancing the investigation. They’re urging motorists to be extra vigilant near schools, playgrounds and crosswalks, and to always obey the directions of crossing guards. “Failing to stop for a school crossing guard can place pedestrians at serious risk and may result in enforcement action,” the RCMP adds. Crossing guard spoke to CTV News CTV News Atlantic’s Derek Haggett spoke to the crossing guard after the incident in April. Yvon Gaudet said he pushed the button to cross, raised his stop sign and entered the road. Then he said an SUV drove through the crosswalk while a young student waited on the curb to cross the street. After the vehicle drove away, Gaudet escorted the child across the street safely. “It might be 20 seconds longer in their trip if they stop at the crosswalk with the flashing lights, fluorescent vest, with the stop sign,” said Gaudet at the time. Gaudet urged people to slow down and drive more carefully in a school zone. “I take this job very seriously. I’ve been here five years. I see kids grow up, I see the older kids move on to the high school, I see new kids come.
