A New Brunswick school has received the all-clear to reopen following concerns about asbestos in the building. Earlier this week, CUPE said a “mishandling of asbestos” at Petitcodiac Regional School resulted in nine workers being exposed. WorkSafe NB told CTV News Atlantic it conducted tests, which a week ago identified concerns related to dust and cleaning in certain areas of the building. The first day of school is Tuesday. Anglophone East School District superintendent Randy Maclean said WorkSafe NB gave the official go-ahead on Wednesday evening for the K-12 school to re-open. “The department and province are investing heavily in air ventilation systems across the province,” said Maclean, on Thursday. “Anytime you do a project like this there’s unforeseen concerns about what it looks like when we first open walls, like any construction project. “There was a concern raised. Testing was done. It was deemed to be not asbestos related but there’s dust.” Maclean said teachers worked off site this week to prepare for classes next week, and returned to the building on Thursday morning. “We’re excited to welcome the community and students on Tuesday morning,” said Maclean.
