Moncton’s food security efforts got a boost this week with a special surprise for Feed NB — a donated delivery truck from Purolator. As part of its nationwide “Purolator Tackle Hunger” initiative, Purolator recently donated eight retired and refurbished delivery trucks to food banks across Canada, helping local organizations strengthen their ability to transport food to people facing hunger. The truck arrived in Moncton this week, and Feed NB staff are already planning how to put it to use in the community. “It will be used for various things such as drop offs, as well as pick ups and such as food drives,” said Ian Harvey, finance and administration manager at Feed NB. “It will help out greatly when we go to other food banks throughout the community, plus soup kitchens and other shelters as well.” According to Purolator’s website, the truck donation program is part of a broader effort to ease transportation challenges that many food banks face — especially in reaching vulnerable individuals and families. In addition to the trucks, Purolator’s employees, customers and partners are on track to deliver a record amount of food to Canadian food banks this year through the Tackle Hunger campaign.
