Fire crews responded to a vehicle fire at a gas station on Joseph Howe Drive early Sunday morning, said a social media post from the Halifax Professional Fire Fighters. A vehicle was “heavily involved in fire directly adjacent to the gas pumps” when firefighters from Station 5 in the West End of Halifax arrived, minutes after the report came in at 4:10 a.m., said the post. The fire had spread to the gas station itself by the time firefighters arrived, said the association. “Due to the location and potential for rapid fire spread, crews were faced with a high-hazard situation on arrival,” said the post. The association said firefighters deployed hoses and brought the fire under control quickly but the gas station sustained heavy damage. For more Nova Scotia news, visit our dedicated provincial page
