For many years, Rob McCormack operated Simcoe Print Solutions in downtown Barrie with the help of a very popular colleague. In 2015 McCormack set up shop in the city’s core, with his shop located at 124 Dunlop Street East. It was, however, his companionship with a furry friend that made his shop a community staple. According to the Downtown Barrie Business Improvement Association (BIA), every day, people would stop by Simcoe Print Solutions to come greet McCormack and Sally. Sally was the beloved dog of McCormack. The BIA says Sally became a “neighbourhood fixture,” with people stopping by to give her pets and offer her treats. McCormack often featured Sally on his products as well. “His personality and work ethic helped him survive and flourish where many independent operators struggle,” the BIA said in a post on social media. McCormack died in 2025 according to the BIA, his decade-old shop eventually shut down. Sally died sometime after, the BIA said. McCormack and his dog have since been honoured by the city. “The city recognises McCormack’s work ethic and downtown commitment as hallmarks of independent business resilience,” the BIA said in a post on social media. Dunlop Mews, an alleyway next to where the print shop was once located, was renamed in honour of Sally. On Sept. 19, members of council and the community gathered in the alleyway for the ceremony. An official proclamation from the mayor renamed the passage to “Sally’s Alley.” The BIA said the dedication ensures Dunlop Mews carries the memory of McCormack and Sally for every resident and visitor who passes through.
