A young man from Annapolis Royal, N.S., is the holder of a unique Guinness World Record. Saul Hafting, who currently studies at Dalhousie University in Halifax, has earned the record for most rotating puzzle cubes solved while on a pogo stick. “I grew up reading these Guinness World Records books and it was very inspiring reading all of them. I never thought I would actually have a talent worthy of being in the book,” he told CTV Your Morning Atlantic’s Crystal Garrett on Friday. Hafting solved a total of 211 Rubik’s Cubes while bouncing hands-free on a pogo stick on Oct. 9, 2021. He was able to achieve this with the help of “scramblers” who kept fresh cubes coming as he bounced his way into the record books. Hafting said he learned how to solve a Rubik’s Cube long before adding in the pogo stick. “I’ve been doing it ever since Grade 6, so I was like 11 or 12, and I did that for many years. I got really fast at it.” He knew there were lots of records in the book related to solving a Rubik’s Cube, so it was a matter of figuring out what he could do. “I learned that you can incorporate Rubik’s Cubes with other things, so I got a pogo stick and I ended up being good enough to be in the book,” he said. Hafting is featured on page 180 of the 2027 edition of the Guinness World Records book – something he still can’t believe. “It’s amazing. I’ve got a collection at home of these books,” he said. For the average person, solving a Rubik’s Cube is a challenge and adding in a pogo stick would seem nearly impossible. “I’ve fallen a couple of times but surprisingly less than you’d think,” said Hafting. “You have to hold it with your knees. That’s the hardest part.” Hafting encourages others to figure out what they could be good at. “If anyone wants to get their own world record, there are tons on the Guinness World Records website that you can get.
