Two people were arrested for allegedly impaired driving after being stopped at road safety checkpoints in Head of Chezzetcook, N.S., over the weekend. RCMP says officers observed a driver of a Mazda CX-5 which allegedly exhibited signs of impairment at around 9:10 p.m. on Friday. The driver was asked to pull over and provide a breath sample, but as the officer went to get the roadside screening device, the Mazda drove away. Police followed the vehicle for a short distance, and a traffic stop was initiated. This time, the driver stopped and provided a breath sample, which resulted in a failure, according to police. “A 55-year-old man from East Chezzetcook was arrested for impaired driving and transported to the Cole Harbour RCMP Detachment, where he provided two breath samples registering 150 mg% and 140 mg%,” read a news release Monday. The next day, police say they detected an odour of alcohol from the driver of a GMC Sierra at 9:25 p.m. The officer obtained a breath sample, which also resulted in a failure. “A 61-year-old man from Lower East Chezzetcook was arrested for impaired driving and transported to Cole Harbour RCMP Detachment, where he provided two breath samples registering 160 mg% and 150 mg%,” read the news release.
