Award-winning Maritime singer-songwriter John Gracie is set to release a new album inspired by the late Gordon Lightfoot. Gracie says the latest project is designed to be listened to in a calm, reflective way. “I think it’s the kind of album you sit down and you can relax and turn the volume down and just enjoy the landscape,” Gracie said in an interview with CTV Atlantic’s Katie Kelly. The record, “A Gentle Homage to Gordon Meredith Lightfoot, Jr.,” features seven Lightfoot songs reimagined in Gracie’s own style. He said the goal was to honour Lightfoot’s writing without trying to copy the original performances. “Lightfoot is one of those artists that you shouldn’t imitate,” Gracie said. Gracie said he believes longtime fans will appreciate the approach. “I’m very pleased with the way it worked because it’s completely different - and I think the Lightfoot fans will enjoy it for that,” he said. “A Gentle Homage to Gordon Meredith Lightfoot, Jr.” is set for release Jan. 26 and will be available on major streaming platforms.
