57-year-old man ejected from boat, then struck by circling vessel: OPP

A 57-year-old man was taken to hospital after being ejected from a boat on Georgian Bay, leaving the vessel circling uncontrolled before striking him in the water, according to police.

Emergency crews were called to Brandy’s Island around 2:15 p.m. on Thursday.

Southern Georgian Bay officers say the boater was thrown from his vessel, which continued moving in circles and later hit him in the water.

The man was taken to hospital by Muskoka emergency services with minor injuries. Members of the Georgian Bay Township Fire Department assisted, while responders were eventually able to stop the runaway vessel.

Police are reminding boaters to wear properly fitted and approved life jackets when heading out on the water.

“With water temperatures still cold this time of year, the risk of cold-water shock and rapid hypothermia is significant,“ stated OPP in a release. ”Emergencies can happen in an instant, even to experienced boaters.”

No charges have been laid in this incident.
