A driver was airlifted to a Toronto trauma centre after a head-on crash in Barrie that police say transpired when he crossed into oncoming traffic. It happened July 13 on Fairview Road, just north of Harvie Road. “Through the investigation, the Barrie Police Service Traffic Reconstruction Unit determined the sedan travelled over the centre line into the direct path of oncoming traffic,” police said in a Friday release. The 64-year-old Barrie man driving the sedan suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was flown to Toronto. The driver of the pickup truck, a 62-year-old Barrie man, was not injured. Fairview Road was closed for roughly six hours while police investigated and crews cleared the scene. Last week, police charged the 64-year-old sedan driver with careless driving under the Highway Traffic Act.
