Innisfil is about to get a roundabout. What used to be a farm road between Innisfil and Barrie has reached the designation of being a part of one of the longest roads in the country: Yonge Street. And now it’s getting its own roundabout. Technically, the County of Simcoe is constructing a roundabout at the intersection of County Road 4 (Yonge Street) and 9th Line in Innisfil. But you’ll have to have your wits about you this week as the partially finished roundabout is forcing the closure of Yonge Street (County Road 4) Wednesday to Friday. It will be fully closed for paving from 7 a.m. Wednesday until 7 a.m. Friday. During this period, detour routes via McKay Road, County Innisfil Beach Road (Road 21) and 10th Sideroad are open. The roundabout will have a two-lanes to accommodate the future widening of Yonge Street to four lanes or two lanes in each direction. It is expected to increase traffic capacity and lower speeds in the area. The county’s coordinating with Innisfil services to install water and sewer mains during road construction.
