If you’ve ever wondered what pure happiness looks like, it might just be a bear rolling around in a giant pile of wood shavings. A Sunday video posted to social media by Aspen Valley Wildlife Sanctuary shows black bears Kap and Marie rolling and digging through the shavings until their dark coats are completely covered in them. It’s the kind of video you could watch on repeat, but there’s actually a special story behind all that rolling around. One last treat before returning home Aspen staff say the three black bears have been part of the Muskoka sanctuary’s rehabilitation program this year: Tim, Kap and Marie. Tim has already had his big day. He was successfully released and is officially back in the wild, says the team. Kap and Marie will soon be following in his pawsteps. But before that day comes, staff wanted to give the bears another chance to enjoy one of their favourite enrichments, a big pile of wood shavings. Judging by the video, it was a good decision. Nestled in Rosseau, Aspen Valley Wildlife Sanctuary rescues and rehabilitates injured and orphaned wildlife, with the goal of releasing animals back into the wild. The centre also provides permanent care for animals that can’t safely be released.
