South Simcoe Police say a youth has been charged in connection with an assault investigation. On Sunday, officers responded to an assault call; a group of youths told police their friend had been stabbed in the area of 20th Sideroad and Benson Street in Innisfil, around 11:20 p.m. When officers arrived on scene, they found the victim who had suffered “several lacerations to the body.” Police provided medical care until paramedics arrived and took the victim to a local hospital. With the help of the canine unit, police conducted a search of the area, however, no arrest was made at that time. A youth suspect was identified and South Simcoe Police say the suspect later turned themselves into police custody. The youth now faces charges of aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. The youth cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. The investigation remains ongoing, but police say there is no threat to public safety. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact South Simcoe Police.
