‘Immediately stop using’: Solar power bank recalled in Canada, U.S.

Canadians who own this wireless power bank are being urged to “immediately stop using” over a potential fire hazard.

Health Canada issued a consumer product recall Thursday for the Super Off-Road 12,000 mAh Solar Wireless Power Bank (model T1037), saying the device’s lithium-ion battery cell could overheat and expand, increasing the risk of fire.

The federal agency revealed it was a joint recall between Health Canada, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Spector and Co., a Quebec-based importer. Between January 2019 and December 2023, approximately 5,000 affected units were sold in Canada and 7,399 in the United States.

As of June 23, the company had received no reports of incidents or injuries in Canada. Meanwhile, the U.S. said two swollen batteries were reported with no injuries.

The recalled products were manufactured in China.

Consumers can contact Spector and Co. by email at [e-mail] or register for a refund through Spector and Co. The company will also provide instructions for safely disposing of the recalled product.

Anyone who experiences a health or safety incident involving the recalled product is encouraged to report it to Health Canada through its consumer product incident reporting system.
