Ontario’s police watchdog says an officer in Windsor won’t be charged after a man was injured during an arrest this past spring. The Special Investigations Unit says officers responded on May 25th to a call about a man assaulting a woman at Pitt Street and Ouellette Avenue. It says the man fell forward on his face while fleeing after an officer used a stun gun, and that he was taken to hospital with skull fractures near his right eye. The watchdog says the use of a less-lethal weapon made sense to “incapacitate” the man because he continued to flee even after he was told to stop.
