Two residents of Cochrane, Alta., face multiple charges after an RCMP investigation that led to the seizure of more than a kilo of suspected cocaine. In May, Cochrane RCMP Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) officers launched an investigation into drug trafficking activity in the town. CRU officers and members of the emergency response team, executed two search warrants on July 30 at a residence in Calgary’s Rockyledge View neighbourhood and another at a home in Heritage Hills in Cochrane. In those searches, police discovered and seized over a kilogram of suspected cocaine, around 340 grams of suspected fentanyl, $22,000 in Canadian and foreign currency, and two baton tasers. A 37 year-year old man and 36-year-old woman, both from Cochrane, were charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, and other offences under the Criminal Code and Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. Both were released with conditions following a bail hearing. They are scheduled to appear in court in Cochrane on Aug. 11. “This investigation demonstrates our continued commitment to disrupting the trafficking of dangerous drugs within our community,” says Staff Sgt. Chad Fournier, Cochrane RCMP’s acting detachment commander, in a media release. “The quantities of drugs seized during this investigation had the potential to cause significant harm,” Fournier added. “I want to recognize the dedication of our Crime Reduction Unit and the RCMP Emergency Response Team for their assistance in safely executing these search warrants.”
