Welcome to spring in Calgary where you get a little bit of everything all packed into one week! After a Saturday full of wet weather, we started to see the temperatures and conditions improve on Sunday and we will hold on to that warming trend to start off the work week with some nice sunny breaks this afternoon and southerly winds getting us to a high of 9C. Our next weathermaker arrives early Tuesday morning and has triggered a yellow level snowfall warning for regions at higher elevations like Banff, Canmore and Lake Louise as these areas could received between 20 to 30 cm of snow from this incoming system. This is also an area dealing with a high avalanche risk at so if you do have some spring break travel plans in the area be sure to consult 511 Alberta and DriveBC as their could be road closures in many avalanche prone areas. Snowfall totals won’t be as high in the Calgary area, but models suggest we could see five to 10 cm by Wednesday afternoon. Temperatures will also dip to below seasonal values with the snow, and it could be gusty by mid-week with winds coming from the north at 30 to 50 km/h. The snow will be done by the time Thursday comes around but it will take us another day to start climbing back into the positives for temperatures. However, long range models seem encouraging that a ridge of high pressure will arrive bringing double-digit highs by the time the weekend comes around!
