The Calgary Police Service is increasing patrols around synagogues and Hanukkah celebrations following the mass shooting in Australia over the weekend. “We are saddened by the tragedy in Australia, where multiple people celebrating the start of Hanukkah were killed in a terrorist attack,” the CPS posted on X. At least 15 people were killed, including a child, and 38 others wounded when officials say two gunmen opened fire as the crowd gathered for a Hanukkah celebration on Sydney’s Bondi Beach Sunday. Investigators believe the gunmen were a father and son and say one was fatally shot by police, while the other was taken into custody. CPS says it has connected with Calgary’s Jewish Community to offer support. They are increasing patrols including at Monday night’s Menorah lighting that takes place at City Hall. CPS also encourages anyone who sees anything suspicious around any places of worship to contact police.
