A ridge of high pressure is really starting to settle in over western Canada, and that will bring lots of sunshine to Calgary this afternoon. It’s going to be a brisk start to the day though, with temperatures below freezing this morning, due to the clear conditions overnight allowing a lot of thermal heat to escape back into the atmosphere. Once the sunrise begins at 8:09 a.m., we will start to see temperatures move back into the positives with a forecast high of 13 C for the city this afternoon, exceeding the normal 10 C high for this time of year. You may recall yesterday we experienced some breezy conditions in the afternoon, that won’t be the case for today. Now that the upper ridge is more established, that’s really going to keep the winds calm. There is still the potential, albeit slight, for a brief skiff of showers to pass over parts of Calgary on Thursday morning, but the rest of the work week has more warm temperatures in store straight through until Saturday. On Sunday, a large trough containing cold air will start to move into the province, and that will begin a stretch of below-seasonal temperatures for the start of next week. As it stands right now though, another warmup is poised to arrive just in time for Halloween!
