Thousands of Calgarians rang in the new year by gathering in Eau Claire and surrounding areas to watch the fireworks at midnight. They also took in several other fun activities, and many people were in a reflective mood about the year ahead. The weather was mild; food trucks kept everyone fed. The skating rink on the lagoon was very popular as everyone got ready to celebrate. Many people told CTV News about their specific New Year’s resolutions. “Work hard and create as many memories as possible with everyone else around you in your life,” said one man. “I want to lose some weight; maybe work a little harder,” said another. “2025 has not been great, but 2024 was really good,” said one woman. “I travelled around to 23 countries in 85 days, so I’d love to do that again in 2026, if possible.” Others have more general goals for 2026, hoping for positive things. “I want to protect my energy and sharpen my direction,” said one woman. “I want to be happy—to have a happy life ahead and to worry less,” said another woman. The night ended with an eight-minute fireworks display over Prince’s Island Park.
