A Calgary man is facing dozens of charges after two loaded handguns were allegedly found in his possession after he fled from officers in a stolen vehicle. Police say the stolen Toyota Tundra, believed to have been fraudulently re-vinned, was spotted in the Beltline on Aug. 21. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, at which time the driver allegedly took off. The Tundra was found unoccupied several blocks away. “Several minutes later, the suspect was observed hailing a cab from the scene,” police said in a Wednesday news release. “Patrol officers conducted a traffic stop on the cab, at which time the suspect fled on foot.” Following a brief chase, police say the suspect was taken into custody with the help of a police dog. “Upon arrest, officers located a MAC-11 9 mm semi-automatic pistol, a snub nose revolver and a suppressor,” said a news release. A search of the Tundra resulted in the seizure of a small amount of cocaine and methamphetamine, 15 handgun receivers, five additional suppressors, 13 high-capacity magazines and numerous fraudulent identification cards, police said. The handguns are undergoing testing, but police believe they were purchased in Texas and smuggled into Canada. Jeremy Sauve, 41, is facing 36 charges. He was wanted on eight outstanding warrants at the time of his arrest, including obstruction, failing to appear in court and escaping lawful custody. Sauve remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court next on Sept. 14. Police say the investigation “remains ongoing” and “additional charges are pending.”
