Lethbridge police are asking for the public’s help identifying a suspect believed to be involved in a series of incidents across the city Wednesday night. Police say the incidents began around 8:45 p.m. when officers responded to a report of a carjacking in the parking lot of a business along the 500 block of Eighth Street South. A security officer told police an unknown man ordered him out of his vehicle and attempted to physically remove him. The suspect was unsuccessful and fled the scene. While searching for the suspect, police were advised that a man matching the description had earlier entered a convenience store along the 700 block of Sixth Avenue South with his face partially covered and a hand in his pocket, appearing to have a weapon. The man demanded cash but fled when none was provided. Police say no weapon was observed. Around 9 p.m., officers responded to a report of a man attempting to enter a backyard along the 600 block of 6 Street South. The homeowner confronted the suspect, who pointed an object at her and became belligerent before leaving the area. At about 10 p.m., police received a report that the same suspect approached a man sitting on a bench on a pedestrian bridge along Whoop-Up Drive. Police say the suspect was brandishing a skill saw and demanded the victim’s bag. The victim, fearing for his safety, fled on his bike while the suspect briefly chased him on foot. Around 10:42 p.m., police responded to another incident in a university parking lot, where a security officer reported a man approached a vehicle and ordered the occupant to get out. When the victim refused, the suspect moved to the passenger side before leaving on foot. Police say the suspect appeared to be concealing something in his waistband, though no weapon was observed.
