Reading in the Wild to take over Calgary’s Central Memorial Park one evening in June

Calgarians of all ages are encouraged to get in a little “Reading in the Wild” late next month.

The Wordfest and Calgary Public Library event will take place Tuesday, June 23, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Central Memorial Park.

Reading in the Wild is free.

Shelley Youngblut, Wordfest CEO, called the event “a no-stress, radically inclusive experience that offers so much joy.”

She said it resonates, “tapping into our longing for shared experiences that highlight community, open minds and celebrate our connection to the OG social media app: books.”

Chelsea Murray, Memorial Park Library service delivery manager, called the event “an immersive and accessible experience.”

She said it allows the entire community to come together “and celebrate literacy,” and is a reminder “reading can happen anywhere.”

Those interested in attending the outdoor read-a-thon can bring their own book or pick something from a curated selection.

Library cards will also be provided at the event if anyone needs and would like one.

It will be Calgary’s third annual edition of Reading in the Wild.

Reading in the Wild will feature live music by Solatido.

There will also be complimentary ice cream and pup cups by Village for the first 400 humans and the first 25 dogs, respectively.

Available for purchase will be Barrow Coffee Roasters coffee, as well as WildFolk and Tuesday Brewing zero-proof drinks.

Available for pre-order will be Park by Sidewalk Citizen dinner boxes.
