Special needs kids enjoyed a Victoria Day full of all kinds of fun sports activities in northeast Calgary. The All Alberta Sports Foundation held its annual Family Fun Day at the Genesis Centre. The organization says it believes every child deserves a day of pure joy, and every family deserves a community that truly understands them. It says specialized recreational initiatives for children with special needs are often overlooked. But this event provides a safe, sensory-friendly environment. “No judgment, it’s a safe and a big space,” said Zar Rubab, with the All Sports Alberta Foundation. “All parents are here, you can share your experience, and you can also learn from other parents, so you can also get information and knowledge about whatever you are looking for.” Activities included interactive sports games, magic shows, a jumping castle, entertainment by clowns and mascots, arts and crafts, face painting and a photo booth. “We all are working together really hard to support the special needs kids and families, so that they can move forward in their life with different, good sources,” said Nadia Yousufi, with the All Sports Alberts Foundation. This is the fourth year for the event, which the foundation says helps fill a vital gap in community services.
