Lots more sunshine in store for the Blue Sky City today, which will help us get to a high of 2 C with a chance once again of some late afternoon flurries, though chances are looking slim. The normal high for Calgary at this time of year is 3 C, so we are right where we should be, but we won’t be seasonal for long. While Wednesday afternoon is looking great with sunshine and a high of 3 C, a winter weather system will be right on our doorstep, with snow slated to fall as early as the supper hours. A lot of moisture is being pushed into Calgary due to the jet stream, which will be situated right over southern Alberta from Thursday to Saturday, steering lots of snow into Calgary, the foothills and the Rockies. While forecast snowfall amounts appear to be about five to 10 centimeres for Calgary from this snow event, higher elevations could get into the 30 to 50-centimetre range. This is great news from a recreation standpoint for those who love winter activities, but this could be a very hazardous situation when it comes to road travel. Be prepared as early as Thursday morning to see deteriorating road conditions both in the city and out on area highways, with conditions worsening the more west you go. The bulk of the snow is shaping up to fall on Thursday, but snowy periods look likely on both Friday and Saturday as well.
