Suspect wanted in Calgary extortion investigation captured

Calgary police say they have arrested a fifth suspect in connection with a recent kidnapping and extortion investigation involving an Edmonton man.

Officials say Gagandeep Singh, 29, of Calgary, was recently located and arrested.

Police have not shared any information about where or exactly when he was captured.

Officials say Singh was part of a group of individuals who kidnapped a man from Edmonton on May 6 for the express purpose of extorting a family in Calgary.

The suspects were reportedly unsuccessful in their attempt and were arrested a short time later.

Police seized a privately manufactured firearm and laid kidnapping, assault and firearms charges against the suspects.

Singh was wanted for kidnapping with a firearm, pointing a firearm, unlawful confinement, assault with a weapon and assault.
