CTV News has learned one person is seriously injured after a tour bus driving on Alberta’s Columbia Icefield stalled and rolled down the embankment. RCMP say they were notified on Tuesday that a tour bus had stalled on the glacier that lies in Banff and Jasper National Parks. They say the person on board was a mechanic who was troubleshooting the bus when the accident happened. The person suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries, Mounties say. The mechanic was taken to Jasper for medical treatment, they say. No tourists were on board. Pursuit cancels tours Pursuit, the company that owns the vehicle, announced that it would be cancelling all glacier trips on Sept. 1 and 2 in the wake of the incident. In a statement, it said all guests with affected bookings will automatically receive a refund for those cancelled trips. The Columbia Icefield Skywalk, Glacier Discovery Centre and all other amenities will be open. Site of 2020 deadly rollover This accident is not the only incident involving an tour bus on the iconic glacier. In 2020, three tourists died after an Ice Explorer tour bus tumbled 50 metres down a glacial embankment on the icefield before coming to a stop on its roof. The accident happened the driver of the tour bus had complained about his brakes three days before. A fatality inquiry completed in 2025 found the incident was caused by a “catastrophic braking issue.” Fourteen other people were seriously injured in the accident. — With files from Camilla Di Giuseppe
