A free youth football camp saw nearly 600 kids running drills in Sherwood Park on Saturday. The Chuba Hubbard youth football camp was started by the National Football League running back of the same name. Hubbard used to call Sherwood Park home, and played high school football at Bev Facey. The camp, which runs all weekend, gave young players a chance to learn with other athletes from the NFL, CFL and the NCAA. Hubbard celebrates the camp as a way to connect with kids who remind him of himself before he got his start. “This is our fifth or sixth annual, so we’re kind of getting something consistent going … For me to come out, bring some of my guys, some of my friends and have this impact on the community is big,” he said on Saturday. “It just kind of humbles you. It reminds you of where you once were.” The trek to Sherwood Park, he added, is worth it for each athlete who helps out. “Over the years, kids start to cycle back through it, and you see them develop over time.
