81-year-old man dead after crash in north Edmonton

An 81-year-old man is dead after being taken to hospital with serious injuries following a crash last month.

Police say officers responded to a crash involving a 2024 Kia Seltos and a 2011 Kia Optima just before 6 p.m. on June 24 in the area of 97 Street and 132 Avenue.

A news release said the Seltos, driven by the 81-year-old, was travelling north on 97 Street where he attempted to make a left turn onto 132 Avenue westbound when it was struck by the Optima travelling southbound on 97 Street.

The 81-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious injuries but was in stable condition. The 22-year-old man and driver of the Optima and the 21-year-old female passenger were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and have since been released.

Impairment is not believed to be a factor.
