News may be coming on a pipeline to the West Coast following Canada Day. “We will have a major announcement on July 2 to share new details about the Government of Alberta’s submission to the Major Projects Office for a new one-million-barrel-per-day pipeline to Canada’s West Coast,” said a statement from the premier’s press secretary Sam Blackett Monday evening. The announcement will come after Premier Danielle Smith signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Prime Minister Mark Carney in November of last year that outlined a framework for a potential pipeline out west. A deadline for the project proposal was April 1. Smith’s office set a deadline to submit the proposal to the federal Major Projects Office for July 1. The MOU raised concerns from Indigenous communities that could be impacted by the pipeline as well as B.C. Premier David Eby. Earlier this month, Alberta’s energy minister said several proponents have approached the province to fund the pipeline.
