A man has been charged and fined after posting video of himself driving a vehicle on a Fort McMurray walking path to avoid traffic on Highway 63. RCMP said the video, which appears to have been taken down, showed the man driving down a pedestrian walking path due to construction delays on the highway on Aug. 12. The man was identified, Mounties said, as a 30-year-old Fort McMurray resident. He was charged under the Traffic Safety Act with: RCMP said the combined charges total $3,404 in fines and carry a penalty of 16 demerit points. The man was also issued a local bylaw violation notice for driving a motor vehicle on a sidewalk. If the man chooses not to pay the fines, he will appear at the Alberta Court of Justice in Fort McMurray on Nov. 13, 2026.
