Drivers asked to slow down during provincial highway cleanups this weekend

Alberta RCMP are asking drivers to steer clear of groups cleaning provincial highways this weekend.

Province-wide highway cleanups will take place Saturday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., or May 9 if weather cancels the original date.

The crews are made up of more than 12,000 people, 8,000 of which are children from 4H clubs, Junior Forest Wardens and other youth groups.

Participants will be wearing safety vests and posters will be around cleanup areas to remind drivers to slow down.

Mounties ask highway drivers to be aware of extra foot traffic. Extra patrols along provincial highways will enforce safety and speed on Saturday.
